Breed standard…
... in other words, the ideal of Ragdoll, which many breeders strive for. They try to select breeding cats in such a way as to achieve a standard as close to the standard as possible.
Well, the perfect Ragdoll is ...
a large, massive, muscular cat with a broad chest. It should give the overall impression of a well-built cat. Strong feet [the hind feet should be slightly longer than the front feet], the feet close with tufts of hair between the toes, and a long, fluffy tail.
Females weigh between 3.5 and 6 kg, males between 6 and 8 kg, with full maturity only at the age of about 3 years.
The head of medium size, with the shape of a wide wedge, ends with a flat gable between the ears. Those, also of medium size, set wide on the skull, should be wide at the base, slightly sloping anteriorly and rounded at the tip. Broad and strong chin.
Large and oval blue eyes - the darker the Ragdoll's color, the more intense the eye is. The nose is straight with a visible, slight indentation 1/3 of the height.
Medium-length hair, extremely soft, dense and silky to the touch. Longer around the neck, creating the so-called ruff and on the sides of the cat and on the pants.
There are three main colors of Ragdolls:
Colourpoint – pale fur with darker markings on the face, ears, feet and tail. There is no whiteness.
Bicolour – with an inverted white V on the face, here there is white on the abdomen and on the back [in the form of white spots]
Mitted – coat similar to Colourpoint, but with a touch of white: white beard, belly band, front feet and back knee socks. Often there is also the so-called blaze - white markings on the face [can be in the form of lines, stars, hourglasses ...]
Each of the colors can come in a dozen or so color combinations - blue [a], seal [n], cream [e], red [d], chocolate [b], lilac [c] and tortoiseshell.
Ragdolls also have brindle, or Lynx.
However, what is most beautiful about Ragdolls is their character !
They are very calm and extremely gentle cats. They are completely devoid of aggression, very patient, not intrusive. Ragdolls quickly become attached to their owners. I have the impression that mine are attached to an "invisible lanyard" because wherever I am in the house, they are next to me. They do it very discreetly and it can be surprising when, leaving the bathroom, we realize that the cat was there with us ...
Ragdolls very little, and if anything, they meow softly. They are rather low-floor. The worktop is too high for them.
They like to sleep with people or next to the bed - as long as they are close. In many cats of this breed, the biological alarm clock is programmed at 5 am :]
They are very trusting, which is good for humans, maybe a little less for cats. They are not suitable for the so-called cats. "Outgoing" because with their inherent gentleness they could fall prey to other animals. Getting to a responsible and loving home, they will surely repay you in two ways. Ragdolls can go home with other animals as they get along well in the herd. Despite their dimensions, they will also feel good in small apartments.
Due to their exceptional patience and gentleness, they often assist therapists in activities with disabled people and are often chosen as friends for families with children.
